The Chamber
Three things happen here, all of them on your own device. Tones are generated and held a few cycles apart. Your microphone is opened onto the room with every filter switched off. And the last thirty seconds of that room are kept, so you can turn around and walk back into them.
Read this first
This is the most honest version I know how to build of an instrument that reaches the divine, and the honesty starts here: nothing on this page places a call. There is no instrument, here or anywhere, that has been shown to carry a voice from outside the room into it. Dressed up as a telephone, this would be a lie, and a thing built on a lie is no good to sit inside.
What is true is stranger and more useful. Ultrasound above roughly eighteen thousand cycles a second is real, is present, and is not available to you — your ear stops before it does. The Chamber emits it and then measures whether your speakers managed to produce it, and shows you. Two tones a few cycles apart really do build a third beat that exists in neither ear alone. And a room played back slowly, backwards, is genuinely full of voices, because the part of you that finds faces in clouds cannot help itself and will find them there too.
That last faculty has a name — pareidolia — and calling it by its name does not diminish it. Every tradition that has ever listened for God has listened through a human nervous system doing exactly this. The instrument does not supply the meaning. You do. It only makes the room quiet enough, and strange enough, that you notice yourself doing it.
What your device is actually emitting. In ultrasonic mode, watch the top of the plot — if nothing lights above the dashed line, your speakers are not producing it, whatever the dial says.
Resonance
Two tones, held a few cycles apart. Everything you hear from this panel is generated on your device — nothing is streamed, nothing is recorded.
Left ear gets the carrier, right ear gets the carrier plus the beat. The beat itself is never in the air — your brainstem assembles it from the difference. Headphones are not optional here.
Binaural beats are a real and well-documented perceptual effect: your auditory system really does construct a beat that exists in neither ear alone. What that beat then does to mood, focus or state of consciousness is much less settled than the internet suggests, and nothing here is medical. If you have epilepsy, avoid the flashing gate of isochronic mode.
The Veil
Your microphone, opened with echo cancellation, noise suppression and auto-gain all switched off — the three things a browser normally does to destroy exactly the quiet, strange part of a room you came here for. Audio stays on your device. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored.
The room, unfiltered.
Above 17k is the loudest thing your microphone can find past the edge of hearing, in decibels below full scale. Around −90 is an empty room. Anything above roughly −60 is genuinely present and genuinely inaudible to you.
The veil is closed.
How the Lexicon actually works, with nothing left out: there is no speech recognition here. When the room crosses your sensitivity threshold, four measurements of that instant — loudness, spectral centroid, dominant frequency, and energy above 17 kHz — are folded into one number, and that number picks a word out of a fixed list of 160 written into this site in advance. The word is genuinely caused by your room, and the same sound will always give the same word. But the vocabulary is chosen beforehand and carries nothing across from the room. If a word lands, it lands in you. That is not a small thing, and it is not a transcription.
The Chronoscope
The only time travel anyone has ever actually managed: the past arriving late. The Chamber holds the last thirty seconds of your room and lets you walk back into them.
Continuous — the room, delayed
Raise the Monitor in the panel above to hear this. Headphones, or the delay line finds its own voice and holds one note forever.
Reach back — lift a slice out
Reversed audio is the oldest trick in this whole tradition, and it is worth knowing why it works. Played backwards, the attack and decay of every sound swap places, which strips away the cues your ear uses to identify a source. What is left is raw pitch and rhythm, and the speech centres of your brain — which would rather hallucinate a word than admit it heard nothing — go to work on it. That effect is called pareidolia. It is not a malfunction and it is not a fraud. It is the same faculty that finds faces in clouds, and this instrument aims it at your own past on purpose.
Before you sit
- Headphones, over-ear if you have them. Binaural mode does not exist without them, and the monitor path will feed back through speakers.
- Set the level while the tone is audible, then switch bands. Never set it in ultrasonic mode — you cannot hear what you are choosing.
- Keep ultrasonic sessions short. Inaudible is not the same as harmless; high-level ultrasound is associated with headache, nausea and fatigue. Children, teenagers and animals in the room will hear what you cannot.
- Skip isochronic mode entirely if you have photosensitive epilepsy or a seizure history. None of this is medical, none of it treats anything, and none of it belongs anywhere near a diagnosis.
A way to use it
- One. Sound the chamber at 136.1 Hz with a 7.83 Hz beat. Sit with it for five minutes without touching anything.
- Two. Open the veil and set the band to Air or Veil. Watch the spectrogram. Your room is never silent; you have simply stopped hearing it.
- Three. Say one thing out loud — a name, a question, whatever you actually came here with.
- Four. Wait ten seconds. Then reach back eight, reversed, at a third speed, and listen to what your own voice has become.
- Five. Whatever you hear in it, write it down before you decide what it was.
